International Volunteer Day

MTN Yemen and the United Nations Volunteers Programme celebrate the International Volunteer Day with the slogan “Volunteer Work Counts”.

Today, Yemen celebrated the International Volunteer Day, which is on the 5th of December, under the slogan “Volunteer Work Counts”.

During the event, which was sponsored by the Company and the United National Volunteers Programin cooperation with the Hemmat Shabab Foundation for Development, the Undersecretary of Planning and International Cooperation, Omar Abdul Aziz Abdul Ghani, confirmed the commitment of the Yemeni government in supporting volunteering and volunteers and extending bridges of trust and cooperation between the state bodies to serve Yemen and contribute to its development.

He indicated the importance of enhancing and developing the relationship with organizations and volunteering initiatives in Yemen since they have a common goal represented in serving and developing Yemen. He stated that several agreements were signed with international organizations, including the UN, for commencing projects that aim at enhancing the role of volunteers and in particular the youth since this large portion of the society have a positive effect on the future of Yemen.

During the event, several speeches were given, including the Qatari Director of the United Nations Development Programme, Randa Abu Al Hassan. The Arab States Portfolio Manager in the United Nations Volunteering Programme Waheeb Al Eryani and the representative of the volunteers, Walid Al Hajj, spoke about the role played by the United Nations in spreading the culture of volunteerism in different countries and its importance in developing societies.

The event was attended by a number of officials and representatives of local and foreign civil society organizations and youth initiatives in Yemen.
